Hysterectomy(LAVH)

About Hysterectomy

Laparoscopically Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy (LAVH) is a surgical procedure using a laparoscope to guide the removal of the uterus and/or Fallopian tubes and ovaries through the vagina. The procedure has certain advantages over Vaginal Hysterectomy. Its greatest benefit is the potential to convert what would have been an abdominal hysterectomy into a vaginal hysterectomy. Another advantage of the LAVH may be the removal of the tubes and ovaries which on occasion may not be easily removed with a vaginal hysterectomy. Not all hysterectomies should be done by LAVH. In certain situations, a laparoscopic hysterectomy may be sufficient. In other cases, an abdominal hysterectomy or a vaginal hysterectomy (without laparoscopy) is indicated. The surgeon determines the appropriate procedure for each individual case based upon the reason for the hysterectomy and the medical history and condition of the patient. LAVH has a success rate of 96.4%, which means that there are only 3.6% chances of developing any complications in terms of any infection. Choose your surgeon wisely.
